Fashion essentials for combating the end of the world…Part I

In preparation for the upcoming movie – 2012, 2012 and because I’ve always been a geek at “end of the world” type of drama, I’m working on a list of 10 stylish, yet useful, so-needed items (kinda similar in tone to the “Top 10 essentials for your wardrobe” claims) that I will have in my wardrobe once December 21, 2012 hits. Because you know some of us will survive (I’m thinking an I AM Legend type of situation/issue), and why not be “the best dressed” off bat (as narcissistic as that may sound). After all image is everything, or at least comes a close second to breathing.

I understand that should this “whale storm” of a catastrophe happen, that certain items such as water purifiers, wheelbarrows (with spare tires), dust masks and vegetable seeds (as told to ABC News by Patrick Geryl) will be necessities for survival, but what about style survival. I mean this situation would now clean the slate, level the playing field, and allow the most non-fashionable of fashionistas to start anew. Thus, the reason to get this dialog going a bit early.

Now I’ve browsed through numerous of lists from Rachel Zoe to Tim Gunn in what they feel are the top 10 essentials for your wardrobe in general and although I either agree or understand their choices, I thought I would push this mundane list into something useful…like keeping your swag on point as fire balls hit the ground or tsunamis take over North Dakota.

So here it goes…my “partial” list:

1. A Great handbag (that has handles large enough to fit the shoulder, or a cross-body appeal). You know the one I’m talking about. It doesn’t say “over the top fashionista”

, but it is still stylish, economical, and can hold any and everything

, which is what you will need when trying to figure out how to become civilized again.

2. A tailored to the “T” blazer.

For me that means, my Max Mara boyfriend blazer find that I copped in a vintage boutique in Paris. I could sleep in this piece. Plus, once civilization starts picking up again, you need a good office staple/interview piece for that job hunt you’ll be doing. Man can’t live on berries and vegetable seeds alone.

3. Eyeglasses/sunglasses.

This is so essential, you never know how the sun will now be (extra hot, extra high sun beams, etc.), if we still have a sun.

It would of have been #1, but the bag and the jacket are just too high up on my wardrobe survival totem pole.

4. The perfect t-shirt dress. I say t-shirt dress as opposed to just a regular dress because when your living the life of Mad Max and The Thunderdome, Roland Mouret and Brian Atwood heels just won’t cut it. Plus this black asymetrical deep V-neck t-shirt dress by Babooshka Boutique

screams “I can be dressed millions, upon trillions, upon zillions of ways.” And you’ll definitely need that as you battle possible enemy takeovers, Red Dawn style.

5. Converse Chuck Taylors. How can you try to restart the world up again and not have a pair of “Chucks” oh hand.

However, in keeping with the “upholding of my swagga” theme, the chucks can’t be run of the mill.

So I ask you fellow arbiters of style to fashion-elite wannabees: What are your top 10 wardrobe essentials to combat the end of the world?

Note: This post will start out with the first 5, the last 6 will come later…this selection takes time.
